Day 1: JohannesburgOur guide will meet you at Johannesburg International Airport. From the airport we drive to your Guesthouse. The rest of this day is to recover from the flight. However if you are feeling up to it there is an option (included) of an interesting tour of Johannesburg, the largest city in South Africa. Known as the 'powerhouse' of Southern Africa this a melting pot in terms of commerce and culture and the tour can be adjusted to your particular interests.
Overnight: Shonilanga Lodge
Meals: None

Day 2: Wildlife and African CultureAfter breakfast there are 2 options for the morning:

Option 1:
We start off with a guided tour of the Bird Park, including a fascinating flying display of some of the birds. This is followed by a short drive to De Wildt Cheetah Centre in the countryside. De Wildt is internationally acclaimed for it success in captive breeding and relocation of Cheetah and Cape Hunting Dog.

Option 2:
A cultural tour into Soweto, the largest black city in South Africa and the stronghold of the freedom struggle. We start off with a visit to the internationally acclaimed Apartheid Museum where the history of the oppression of 'non-whites' is comprehensively recorded. We then proceed into Soweto, with a specialist guide from the city and who was actively involved with the struggle. We will discover many different lifestyles all fused together in one city. We will take you to Baragwanath Hospital, meet with residents of the informal settlement and drink in a shebeen. Visit the former homes of Nelson and Winnie Mandela, Desmond Tutu and Hector Pieterson Memorial.

After lunch
We head for the countryside leaving the hustle and bustle of the city behind us. Our destination is Lesedi Village and a cultural experience. Here you will get a very informative insight into the history of the major African cultures of South Africa as well as many of their traditional customs, song and dance.
Overnight: Lesedi Cultural Village
Meals: B, L & D

Days 3 & 4: Pilanesberg National ParkAfter breakfast we depart for the ancient volcano that is now Pilanesberg National Park situated in the malaria-free area north west of Johannesburg, a short 1½ -hour drive. We pass through the beautiful Magaliesberg Mountains and through the arid areas that hold the bulk of South Africa's platinum reserves. The concentric rings of the caldera (collapsed volcano) are now home to one of the largest diversities of antelope as well as all the big game you would expect to find in a premier game reserve.

For 2 full days we explore the spectacular landscape, which will leave you gasping as we explore the highlands and slopes looking for wild creatures. A night drive (included) may reveal all sorts of creatures that are normally secretive and hidden during the day such as porcupines, genets, civets and others!

This game reserve was the scene of one of the largest game relocation projects of modern times during the seventies and since then, the populations have grown and flourished to the point where healthy numbers of animals exist.
Overnight: Pilanesberg National Park
Meals: B & D

Day 5: Sun CityAfter breakfast we pack up and depart for the nearby Sun City. On arrival we take a guided tour of the various facilities including the Palace of the Lost City. One does not have to have the slightest interest in gambling to appreciate magnitude of what has been created in this otherwise semi-arid landscape. There is plenty to see and do at Sun City and the casino just becomes a minor aspect. After lunch (for own account) we head back to Johannesburg.
