Day 01: Port Elizabeth Contemporary Xhosa Culture Arrive in Port Elizabeth on a flight from either Johannesburg or Durban . On arrival you will be met and transferred to the Protea Marine Hotel on the promenade. Depending on the time of your arrival there may be time to relax at the hotel and possibly take a stroll along the promenade.

Among the superior hotels in the friendly city of Port Elizabeth , the Protea Hotel Marine is unparalleled. Overlooking the sun-drenched sands of Pollock Beach , with sweeping views of Algoa Bay , this hotel is renowned for its quality facilities, personal service and luxurious atmosphere.

This afternoon at about 15h30, you be met by a representative from Calabash Tours and depart on a tour of the townships, including historical areas and ending with dinner at a local shebeen, or tavern. This is a very real experience and an opportunity to meet with black businessmen and other professionals in their own "local" environment.

Day 02: Garden Route and an opportunity for adventure We leave after breakfast and travel to Knysna. En route we can stop for sightseeing as well as a number of adventure pursuits such as a treetop canopy tour, bungee jumping, river tubing etc. in the Tsitsikamma area. Participating in these activities will depend entirely on the nature of your own disability and how adventurous you are feeling. The activities are not included and will therefore be for your own additional cost. If this sort of thing appeals to you, we will provide further information on request, as they will still need to be pre-booked.
Lunch will be en route at a place of your choice and is for your own account.

Depending on the activities and the amount of time spent sight-seeing, we will arrive in Knysna in the late afternoon.

We make our way to the Protea Hotel Knysna Quays, which is situated on one of the best hotel sites in Southern Africa and enjoys a stunning outlook. Located on the banks of the famous Knysna Lagoon and facing the sea through the Knysna Heads, this exciting hotel is also an integral part of the vibrant Knysna Quays Waterfront with its vast selection of restaurants, bars and speciality boutiques.

The hotel facilities include a swimming pool with a uniquely designed wooden sun deck, individual moorings and jetties at your doorstep.

Day 03: Knysna and surrounding area Today is a day to relax and enjoy the village of Knysna - there is a great deal to see and do or you may prefer to simply relax at the hotel. Options available to you include a boat trip to the Knysna Heads or a motorised boat trip up the river with a picnic on the river bank and much more. Within Knysna there are lots of interesting art and craft shops, an excellent flea market and many restaurants.

All activities today are for your own account.

Day 04: Oudtshoorn, Cango Caves , Cango Ostrich Farm This morning we leave Knysna and travel via George and the Outeniqua Pass to Oudtshoorn.

Oudtshoorn is a beautiful and historic town that can be reached by road, passing through some of southern Africa 's most picturesque mountain passes. The town is a convenient and interesting stopover on the Garden Route and is well known for its Ostrich Show Farms, Ostrich Palaces , The Cango Caves and Cango Wildlife Ranch. There are, however, lots of additional attractions that are not as well known, but equally enjoyable & are also for your own account. These include: A drive over the Swartberg Pass to Prince Albert and back to Oudtshoorn via Meiringspoort, local world-class Port tasting in Calitzdorp, the C.P. Nel Ostrich museum and the Rust en Vrede Waterfall. So, if time allows you can enjoy some attractions "off the beaten track".

Our overnight accommodation is the Protea Hotel Riempie Estate, situated in a farm-like setting on the outskirts of Oudtshoorn. It is a charming hotel with well-appointed thatched rondavels, only 20 minutes away from the Cango Caves and moments away from the crocodile and ostrich farms for which Oudtshoorn is famed.

Day 05: Tour ends Your tour ends today with two options:

  1. Return to George where you check in at the airport for a flight to Johannesburg in order to connect with your outbound flight.
  2. Continue the tour by adding the module " Cape Town and the winelands ". This option will take you through Calitzdorp and Barrydale and into the winelands via the spectacular Franschhoek Pass.

If you combine modules, a discount will apply.

  • The tariff quoted is subject to the availability of all services at current rates and is subject to availability of accommodation & services quoted on receipt of confirmation
  • Adjustments to the tariff quoted may be necessary should unexpected increases in costs of accommodations and serviced occur
  • Once a provisional booking has been made, a 25% deposit will be required to confirm the booking and the balance of payment will be due 45 days prior to departure.
